Below is a photo of a Bell&Howell 253-A 8mm projector threaded
up. I can't guarantee this is exactly right, but it has worked for me.
Notes...
Drive belts. The two (spring) drive belts that connect to the film reel spindles should
not be engaged at the same time. Only the rear belt is connected when playing a film. Only
the front belt is connected when rewinding a film. When rewinding the film should be connected
directly to the opposite reel.
I recommend doing a test run using a junk film with the light off to make sure the projector
is working properly. If the film jams--stops--with the light on the heat of the lamp will melt
the film. Not good.
Super 8 film cannot be played on this projector. The perforations on super 8 film do not line up
with standard 8mm film.
The lamp is a type CZX 120v 500w. As of April 8, 2007 the bulb is still available at
B&H Photo.
