Below are answers to questions that get frequently asked...
What is my old computer worth?
Let's face it... Obsolete machines are just... Obsolete machines. In most
situations the value of old computer equipment is purely sentimental. I occasionally
get asked to assign a value to some item. That can not accurately be done. What is valueable to me
would be a great trash can filler to someone else... and vice versa. Keep in mind that
the demand for old computer
equipment is driven entirely by desire and not necessity. The only exception I can think of is
when a machine in a production environment is needing an obsolete part to get back up
and running again. In that situation, lost production time can equal lost money.
The obsolete part becomes necessity and also much more valuable than it's actually worth.
In industry I have found this to be a fairly common situation.
I have this cool old computer. Do you want to buy it?
Probably not... As a collector I don't pay much for old computer equipment. In fact... Much
of it I get for free. The problem with most old computers is the cost of shipping is more
than I am willing to pay for the computer. There are certian things that I am always on
the lookout for. Click Here to see a list of those things.
Can you send me the drivers for...
Look at DriverGuide.com first. Most of the drivers
that I have looked for have been there.
I want to buy an item but it says it's not for sale.
Currently the computers aren't for sale. Parts and other things I may sell if it
is worth my while.
About personal data security...
Personal information/files found on any computer, diskettes, or hard disk, that I acquire
is/are destroyed to protect the privacy of the original owners. I may retain the operating system
on older machines to keep them functional. Newer machines (Pentium and up) are generally
disassembled for parts/recycling and the hard disk are completely wiped out.
