A list of diagnostic beeps and their meanings for IBM and many compatible machines. The tones occur during the POST and are emitted from the PC's internal speaker. These tones can help troubleshoot a machine that power up but doesn't boot or doesn't display anything on the screen.

Tone Causes
No Sound, No Lights, No Fan, No Nothing No Power
Not plugged in
Bad Power Supply
A long beep followed by a short one Possible Motherboard Failure
A long beep followed by 2 short ones Check display adaptor
A short beep with blank screen Check display adaptor
Check Monitor connections
