| Very close to the bank of the river not far from the machine shop sits this old foundation. It seems a little small for a house. Near the center of this foundation is a very sturdy brick pillar with long anchor bolts on top. If anyone has an idea as to what this used to be, let me know. |

Close up of the brick pattern in the unknown foundation. The wall is thick and the brick pattern alternates. One layer of brick placed sideways followed by 5 layers placed normally. This pattern continues all the way up the foundation. |
| The pile of large granite stones must have been left over from building the bulkhead. In the old photos section of this site is a photo of children sitting on this pile of rocks. |

The town of Avalon was located at mile post 91 on the Norfolk & Southern tracks. Mayodan is at mile post 93. |
