Other Stuff Around Avalon

Very close to the bank of the river not far from the machine shop sits this old foundation. It seems a little small for a house. Near the center of this foundation is a very sturdy brick pillar with long anchor bolts on top. If anyone has an idea as to what this used to be, let me know.
Close up of the brick pattern in the unknown foundation. The wall is thick and the brick pattern alternates. One layer of brick placed sideways followed by 5 layers placed normally. This pattern continues all the way up the foundation.
The pile of large granite stones must have been left over from building the bulkhead. In the old photos section of this site is a photo of children sitting on this pile of rocks.
The town of Avalon was located at mile post 91 on the Norfolk & Southern tracks. Mayodan is at mile post 93.
